Families in God's Mission

Today's update is from Renée

A Place for Families in God’s Mission

As a mother and now a grandmother of three (with one more on the way!), I often think about what it means to pass a living faith down to the next generation. I want my grandchildren to know that following Jesus isn’t just about the words we speak—it’s about the love we show, the prayers we pray, and the actions we take.

This week, as I looked back at photos from our programs in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, I was reminded again that family is at the heart of God’s mission.

Little ones are nourished daily in the Dominican Republic through our START NOW program. Each meal is a testimony of God’s care, provided through your prayers and generosity.

Across the border in Haiti, our youngest are also being cared for with love and consistency. These children remind me of my own grandchildren—precious in God’s sight, deeply loved, and full of potential.

Older children in the Hope Squad are growing in both body and spirit. A hearty meal, time together, and encouragement from caring adults remind them that they are not forgotten.

And it isn’t just local children who are impacted. Families from the U.S. bring their children on Hope Encounters, and these young ones quickly discover the joy of serving others. What a blessing to see the next generation learning early how to love like Jesus.

In Haiti, our medical and dental clinics continue to serve faithfully. Whether it’s a blood test, a check-up, or urgent treatment, people receive care they may otherwise never access. These snapshots show healing in motion—both physical and spiritual.

And then there’s the delight of caring for God’s creation in Luperón. Chickens, bunnies, and cats bring joy and teach responsibility to children and families. This week we celebrated an exciting milestone—our very first chicken egg! 🥚

While Lex was in Africa, I had the joy of spending the weekend with my daughter’s family. Watching my grandchildren laugh, explore, and simply enjoy life reminded me why we do this work: so every child, whether here or in Hispaniola, can grow up with hope for the future.

As a grandmother, my prayer is that my grandchildren will grow up knowing what it means to love God and love people. MOHI provides so many opportunities to do that together as families:

  • Praying with intentionality for children and communities.

  • Giving toward programs that feed, heal, and equip.

  • Volunteering time and talents both at home and abroad.

  • Going on a Hope Encounter to see firsthand the joy of serving.

To all of you who already partner with us—through your prayers, generosity, encouragement, and visits—thank you. You are shaping eternal stories of hope, and together we are showing the next generation that following Jesus means loving people well.
