Redeemed for a Purpose

Today's update is from Renée

“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; He seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor.”— 1 Samuel 2:8

This week, my heart has felt both heavy and hopeful. The weight of what our brothers and sisters in Haiti are facing after Hurricane Melissa is almost beyond comprehension. Yet, in the midst of devastation, we have seen God’s hand at work, redeeming lives, bringing light into darkness, and moving His people to care for one another in ways that truly reflect His heart.

Responding to the Storm

When the floodwaters tore through Petit-Goâve, homes and lives were swept away in the night. Among the victims were family members of our own staff—teachers, parents, neighbors, friends. The grief is deep, but so is the resolve of our Mission of Hope International team. By Wednesday, our leaders and volunteers were already gathering supplies for families who had lost everything. Each kit, costing $48, provides food, hygiene products, first-aid supplies, and clothing for families struggling to rebuild their lives.

We are so grateful to everyone who has already responded with love and compassion. Still, the need remains great. Thousands of families are without food, clean water, or shelter. If you have been praying about how to help, please don’t delay. Your timely response can truly bring hope and healing to those who have suffered so much. Respond here.

“Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”— Romans 12:13

Healing Hands in Haiti

Our partnership with Bless Back Worldwide continues to be a source of great strength and compassion for the people of Grand-Goâve. Together, we operate medical and dental clinics that serve countless families who would otherwise have no access to care. In this time of crisis, the work being done there has been vital to helping people stay healthy and recover from their losses. These clinics are more than facilities; they are places of hope, where love and practical care meet, and where the Gospel is lived out each day.

Empowering Through Education

Education remains one of the most effective ways God lifts people out of poverty. In Haiti, our schools in Thozin and St. Etienne have reopened after the storm, once again filled with the joyful sounds of children learning and laughing. Our assistant school director, Roselande, rejoiced this week over new child sponsors who made it possible for more students to continue their studies.

Across the border in the Dominican Republic, the Bless Back Business Academy continues to thrive. Students in the first level focused on sustainability and quality management, learning how responsible practices can strengthen their businesses and communities. Second-level students explored social media marketing and the importance of creating a strong and consistent brand identity. The atmosphere was one of collaboration, engagement, and enthusiasm as participants gained confidence and vision for their growing ventures.

A Family on Mission

During our recent global staff meeting, Lex and I were deeply touched by the gratitude expressed by our team. Pastor Edon praised God for sunshine after ten long days of rain and for the laughter of children returning to school. Remy thanked our U.S. team for their unwavering support of Haiti as the crisis unfolded quickly.

In the Dominican Republic, Mèt Ben rejoiced over the long-awaited rain that finally reached the gardens, while Marlouse shared how her work as a Community Health Promoter continues to grow, with an increasing number of people seeking her help.

We are also so thankful to have Jonathan working with us in the Dominican Republic. His kind and steady presence has been such a blessing, and the children have absolutely loved getting to know him. It’s been wonderful to see the joy he brings to each activity and how quickly he has become part of the MOHI family.

Madona in the U.S. expressed how proud she is to serve with such a dedicated and unified group. She was especially encouraged to see the Haitian staff take strong leadership in responding to the crisis, even without Lex being physically present, which speaks volumes about their growth and commitment to the mission.

United in Hope

Lex and I spent much of this week in Knoxville, Tennessee, where we were warmly hosted by our dear friends Max and Angie. We also enjoyed reconnecting with our friends at Fellowship West during their Missions Week. Many of them have served with us in Luperón and were eager to hear updates from both Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Their love and ongoing support continue to inspire and encourage us.

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor.”— Ecclesiastes 4:9

As I reflect on all that God is doing through this incredible network of hearts and hands, I am reminded that none of it would be possible without our partners. You are the lifeline that keeps our schools open, our clinics operating, and our relief teams equipped to serve when disaster strikes.

From the depths of our hearts, Lex and I want you to know how incredibly grateful we are to walk alongside you. You are not only helping to meet needs but also bringing dignity, health, education, and hope to our friends in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. What an honor it is to be part of this remarkable community God has woven together for His purpose.
