One Mission, Many Hearts

Today's update is from Renée

“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” Romans 12:4–5

What a beautiful reminder this week has been that we truly are one body. We are called by God to serve, to love, to work, and to shine together. Whether in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, or right here in the United States, I’ve seen again how the Lord intertwines our stories to bring about His perfect purposes.

Haiti — Faith in the Storm

Tropical Storm Melissa has already brought unrelenting rain to the southern peninsula of Haiti, including Grand-Goâve. Over twenty inches of rain are expected this weekend, and already, floods and landslides have claimed lives and homes. With many mountains stripped bare of trees, the danger of mudslides grows with every passing hour. Our hearts are heavy for the small farmers whose gardens and animals will suffer devastating losses. These are the very things their families depend upon for survival.

ree

Please pray for Haiti. Pray for those displaced from their homes, and for those whose livelihoods hang in the balance. As the rains continue to fall, may our “Spread Hope with Food” drive continue strong. The need is urgent, and every gift will help us be ready to provide for our neighbors in their time of need.

A Full Circle of Hope

This month also brought one of the sweetest surprises—a story that only God could orchestrate. When MOHI’s original school first opened its doors (or flaps, as the case may be!) in September 2000, we welcomed 365 little ones from preschool through third grade. Among them was Madona, a bright third grader who quickly captured the hearts of our early visitors.

ree

One of those visitors, Donna, spent time teaching the youth and young adults simple dance routines—joyful expressions of worship to songs like “Hands and Feet” by Audio Adrenaline. Donna decided to sponsor Madona that year.

ree

Madona later became part of MOHI’s very first graduating class. Through the years, she pursued her dream of nursing, married her husband Jephte, and together they are now raising four beautiful daughters here in Massachusetts.

ree

Just last week, Madona called me on FaceTime, her face glowing with excitement. As she worked at her healthcare facility, she suddenly recognized a familiar face—it was Donna! After more than twenty years, God brought them together again in the most unexpected way. They hugged, cried, and praised God for the connection that had changed both of their lives.

ree

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

Moments like this remind us that sponsorship is never just financial. It’s deeply personal. It’s a partnership that shapes futures, ripples through generations, and glorifies God in ways we may never see this side of heaven.

Haiti — Every Day, Every Life

Each day, I thank God for the hands and hearts that make it possible for children to attend school, eat a healthy meal, receive medical and dental care, and learn about Jesus. Pains are being relieved—hunger pains, tooth pains, body pains, heart pains—and all while the children are learning to read, to write, to care for themselves and their communities. Lives are being transformed, not just for today but for generations to come.

ree

Your love and your partnership are changing destinies. Thank you for choosing to pause, to notice, and to act on behalf of the poor.

“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done.” Proverbs 19:17

Dominican Republic — Growth and Grace

In Luperón, new life is literally springing up—our rabbits have multiplied again!

And it's planting season in Luperón, where beans are being planted right now. I love the ingenuity! They made seed carriers from plastic jugs to facilitate planting.

It's always such a joy to see how quickly God’s creation replenishes itself. A simple moment like watching newborn bunnies reminds us that growth often begins quietly, in hidden places, before it’s seen by the world.

At the Bless Back Business Academy, our coach Aquilina Francisco led another impactful week of learning. The advanced students studied Marketing Basics for Brand Management, identifying how their visual identity, message consistency, and customer experience can reflect their faith and values. Meanwhile, the first-level students dove into Accounting and Balance Sheet Preparation, equipping themselves with tools for wise stewardship and sustainable growth. Every class was filled with energy, laughter, and faith. As they learn business skills, they also learn that true success is found in serving others well.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”Matthew 5:16

And in Haiti, women from the first-level Bless Back Business Academy are completing their first loan repayment cycle—right on track! It’s a testament to their hard work, responsibility, and perseverance.

A Glimpse of Heaven on Earth

Our Cristo Esperanza de Vida crusade in Luperón was an experience beyond words. Twenty-six Dominican churches joined together with Mission of Hope International and eight international ministries to proclaim the hope of Jesus to their communities. Together, we witnessed lives touched, hearts opened, bodies healed, and a spirit of unity that could only come from the Lord.

It was extraordinary to see so many people from different backgrounds—different countries, languages, and life stories—all coming together for one purpose. Each person brought their own gifts and experiences, and yet everyone made space for one another to simply be who God created them to be.

ree

Those who traveled from abroad not only ministered during the event but also lived, ate, prayed, and worked alongside one another 24/7. What a beautiful thing to see the Light of Jesus shining through each person, illuminating differences, but never dividing. Together, we reflected His love to one another and to the people of Luperón and beyond.

ree

After the event, Pastor Alex and his family graciously hosted our team for dinner and fellowship, laughter, and reflection on all that God had done.

ree

The following day, those who remained enjoyed a boat ride from Punta Rucia to Paradise Island, snorkeling and sharing lunch on the beach. What a fitting conclusion to a week of friendship, unity, and faith.

ree

As I look back on it all, I can only echo the words of Psalm 133:1:

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.”

Together, we are many parts, but one body; many stories, but one mission; many voices, but one song of praise to the Lord who binds us together in love.

Thank You

From Haiti to the Dominican Republic to the United States, your prayers, your generosity, and your partnership make all the difference. Thank you for standing with us through storms, rejoicing with us in victories, and walking with us in faith.

Let’s continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus, serving with compassion, teaching with grace, and shining His light everywhere He leads.
